We'll provide you the tools you need to promote interactive and print products.
You'll join a local business unit within Freedom Communications, Inc. (FCI), a leading innovator in the transforming media industry. The websites linked to our 40+ newspapers are the #1 sites in virtually all of our markets. We're hiring with an eye on the future, and your success in this role could set you up to pursue a variety of career paths in the local business unit or throughout FCI.
The Role
Each business unit within Freedom Newspapers reflects the unique character of the community and market it serves, and there is a good deal of variety among them. The picture we present here is a general overview of the Field Service Representative (FSR) position, but please understand that details will vary from location to location.
In a nutshell, your objective will be to increase revenue from the existing account base and cultivate new accounts. You'll sell customized multimedia advertising campaigns and packages that maximize results for customers. We'll start by training you so that you have a solid grasp of our products, the strategies behind our sales programs, our markets, and more.
Each FSR is paired with an Account Relationship Specialist (ASR) in an outside/inside partnership, teaming up to optimize service to and impact on the same account list. While we'll require you to check in at the office at least once a day (often you'll attend a team meeting or get some face time with your Manager), you can expect to spend most of your time in the field, cold-calling on new customers, warming up former customers, developing relationships with existing customers who have new management, and checking in with your active accounts.
A sales cycle may last three days or it may take three months, depending on the size and scope of the advertising solution. A typical sale will include:
-
Calling on a potential customer and probing in order to assess needs and understand their goals and challenges.
-
Leveraging that insight to assemble a strategic proposal that takes advantage of our diverse portfolio. This will involve:
-
Conducting market research and analysis, and developing a clear and specific plan for achieving short and long-term goals.
-
Collaborating with a variety of internal departments, such as Graphics, Accounting, Production, and more.
-
Presenting your proposal, using your closing skills to get a commitment and working with the customer to finalize the plan.
-
Handing off the execution to our Production people; at the same time, you will check in with the customer regularly to monitor performance and make appropriate adjustments. Quick question for you - click here

Just as important to the process is the administrative aspect, such as reporting your activities, updating our databases, preparing work orders, and more.
The Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in media sales, including familiarity with interactive and digital products. Quick question for you - click here
At minimum you will need:
-
A history of success in business-to-business sales and a demonstrated ability to meet and exceed established sales goals.

-
Solid computer savvy and working knowledge of MS Office and sales/CRM applications.
-
Strong self-motivation, a goal orientation, and a drive to results.
-
A customer service focus.
-
Solid math skills.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-
Strong interpersonal and active listening skills.
-
The ability to:
-
Work effectively as a member of a sales team and with internal and external customers.

Career development -- our goal is to bring on board people with the potential to move up into sales management as we grow.
Support and autonomy-- from the start you'll see that our environment is supportive. While we'll value the skills and experience you bring, we'll provide you with extensive training in our products and processes, and you'll receive ongoing skills development through formal sales training programs. At the same time, you'll enjoy a good deal of autonomy; we'll look to you to achieve goals independently.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and incentive program, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical and dental insurance, a 401(k) plan, a generous allotment of paid time off, and more.
Keys to Success
Our sales program is dynamic and energized, and we're looking for passionate, proactive people who thrive in a fast-paced environment in which change is a constant. You will need a proven ability to learn quickly, solid follow through skills, attention to detail, and a customer service approach to interacting with both clients and internal contacts. In addition, in order to be an outstanding FSR, you will:
-
Develop collaborative relationships with the Account Relationship Specialist who will be your peer and partner, as well as with other internal contacts and take point on ensuring the entire team delivers excellent customer service.
-
Possess strong initiative and self-motivation, and achieve your goals with minimal supervision.
-
Maintain a high level of innovation and creativity and be willing to try new things and find new inspirations in unusual places.
-
Bring a competitive spirit and goal orientation, including persistence and resilience in pursuing your objectives in spite of obstacles.
-
Remain flexible and adaptable, whether it is rescheduling your day in response to changing priorities or incorporating new products and strategies into your sales approach.
-
Drive toward continuous learning and the pursuit of knowledge, and be able to absorb, assimilate, and apply information quickly.
